WEC
WEC is the Water and Environment Centre affiliated with Sana'a university, Yemen. Being a centre for research and education in the field of water management and environmental policy, it aims to provide quality consultancy services, research inputs and education for the Yemeni and regional water sectors.

Why Water and Environment?
Overexploitation of the main aquifer systems for irrigated agriculture has resulted in substantial depletion of Yemen's water resources over the past 20 years. Major urban centres, including the capital city (Sana’a), are suffering from serious shortage in drinking water supplies.

Discharge of toxic pollutants and sewage into major aquifers as well as seawater intrusion is rapidly reducing the available fresh water resources. These pressing concerns call for a national institute that can serve as a centre of excellence for the field of water and environment.
